Part of Mexico's Quintana Roo state, the Mahahual municipality is near the state's capital city Chetumal (located on the border with Belize) and at ~4 hours drive distance from Cancun (Yucatan Peninsula). This is also one of the country's most popular tourist regions. Puerto Costa Maya is Caribbean Mexico's second-largest cruise port - after Cozumel.
